Every August 20, Hungary celebrates one of its most important national holidays: St. Stephen’s Day, commemorating the foundation of the Hungarian state by King Stephen I, Hungary’s first king.
For us, however, Hungarian history is much more than dates and names in a history book.
It is one of the subjects our guests most enjoy discussing during our Budapest home restaurant experience. Who was St. Stephen? How was the Hungarian state created? Where did the Hungarian people come from? How has Hungary changed over more than a thousand years?
These questions often lead to fascinating conversations about Hungarian history, Hungarian culture and national traditions — and sometimes to stories that you simply won’t find in a standard Budapest guidebook.
August 20 is also a wonderful time to experience Budapest. The city celebrates with concerts, cultural and gastronomic events, and the spectacular fireworks over the Danube.
But we believe there is an even better way to discover Hungary: sit down with locals and talk about it.
Over our four-course dinner, you can ask us about St. Stephen, Hungarian history, traditions — or anything else you have always wanted to know about Hungary.
If you are looking for an authentic Budapest experience, a local Hungarian food experience and a chance to discover the real stories behind Hungarian culture, join us at our table.
Come hungry. Leave with a story.
