The Hungarian New Year’s Eve menu

There are more customs and traditions on New Year’s Eve in Hungary, even in gastronomy. For instance we don’t eat poultry, as it digs our fortune, no fish, as fortune swims away with it. But pig grubs the fortune, so it is the right dish for this special occasion. The other necessary meal helps bringing money for you, that’s why we eat lentils on the first day of the new year.
